Program Roadshow Ahli Majlis Kebangsaan Bagi OKU Bersama Komuniti Tempatan

There were 15 RoadShow were held over all states and federal territories on July 29 and 30, 2013, which was co-organized by MKBOKU and JKM.

The purpose of the roadshow was to collect concerns from People with Disabilities (PwD) to understand how they could form  actions to rectify the problems of the Communities in Malaysia.

I attended two Roadshows in KL and Shah Alam. To my disappointment, I saw many PwD relies on the financial support from JKM heavily and therefore, I heard about money issues for almost 3 hours in KL, of course, some of them sought better improvement in the community and it was better when I heard different issues in Shah Alam, where they screamed for better improvement.

To tell you what I learned from my experience:

It was very interested that if we, Deaf persons, just complained or sought better improvement in our Community, we are actually very selfish, thinking for the improvement for our own sake.

Therefore, it is important for us, Deaf persons, to work with other PwD for the better improvement and development together in the community. That is it - unity and bond is all we need to have for better services in the community.

For now, all we need is a good strategy to win our situation..... thinking hard.... thinking hard...

Based on my observation, we shall not just demand for extra money to support those PwD who are really unable to work to support themselves, but we also should seek the SAME equality in accessing the society - in all aspects, such as education system we need in our own way, more job opportunities need to be made for us, information and health services shall be fully accessed, and full integration into the society without any stigma and discrimination.

I am quite surprised that the OKU Act 2008 could not be used at the court if we want to file a lawsuit after we experienced discrimination or the public refused to provide services to PwD according to the Act 2008. The Act does not have its power to protect us in term of legal.

In other word, BIM which was said being recognized in Malaysia, is just a statement on the OKU Act 2008?

Please correct me if I misunderstand. This issue certainly needs clarification.
