How to promote accessibility?

Is it worth to identify who is actually ableist and/or classist?

How come these words exist if your answer is "no"?

I could say either yes or no as I have my own opinion and you have different opinion. That is important for a good debate.

In our life, we know what we are doing, however, we often forget that what we can do is our privilege that some other people who are not able to do, therefore, they were being marginalized. They remain silent until it is hard to recognize their needs.

They are human like us, too. They have curiosity too. They are thirsty to gain more information. However, they sometimes could not overcome the barriers they encounter. They definitely need someone to help them to break the barriers. You see, you did not notice it because you are able to access what you want. You see, too if you could not access what you want to have.

If you don't satisfy with what you could not access, you would usually bring it up and get what you want. However it also depend on our capability. Sometimes it is beyond our capability. It often happens to those unprivileged persons, especially people with disabilities and poor people.

Take the issue "image description" as our case study. Read the article: http://sotdandzera.hubpages.com/hub/Image-Descriptions-And-How-To-Write-Them and if you could not access this article: read the same article at the bottom line which I have saved for your reading.

It is obvious that the Blind have less privilege than the Deaf who are able to access Internet without having any special assistance. The Deaf persons don't need audio to hear. They are able to see what is in front of them as the visibility is the most important part for using computers and access internet. They could read at least a few words to understand. They were able to appreciate the pictures they are seeing on the websites, such as Facebook, Instagram, Tumblr and others.

However, it does not go well for the Blind, depending on the audio heavily. They need the special assistant very bad in order to access computer and Internet as much as they can. Yet they were not able to explore the Internet fully as much as the Deaf were able to do on the Internet. In spite of the fact that the Blind is less privilege than the Deaf, some of the Deaf also have some limitations, that is it, unable to access to any music or sounds.

We have more privileges, and we must always make it a privilege for the less privileged persons. The barriers happen because we do not make these accessible to them. We are palpable because we also have similar experience, from those higher privileged persons.

Sometimes, we don't have to make this privilege for those who have higher privilege just to teach them some lessons. They need to experience how much we suffer from the information accessibility, otherwise, they will never understand our frustration fully. It is just a butterfly effect.

One thing we need to consider, if we produce a film where the Deaf people take full participation in the scenes and only sign language is used. We refused to use caption or sounds to interpret what the actors/actress say in the film. We want to let these high privileged person to understand how it is difficult to follow the film. At the same time, we are building the same barriers for the Blind, who need to enjoy the film. We are in a dilemma.

What actions we could take in order to provide full access to those low privileged persons but refuse to provide full access to those high privileged persons?

It is a hard decision. The high privileged person would be always the ones enjoy everything whenever they like until they fell into a category of low privileged persons.
