International Day of Sign Language (IDSL) is an occasion to create awareness of the deaf community, culture and sign language as well as to educate the public on the daily lives of the deaf.

The day-long event was launched with the song signing of the national anthem among the deaf and the hearing, followed by a short speech on introduction on IDSL from Pusat Majudiri Y for the Deaf (PMY).

Malaysian Sign Language Association (MyBIM) advocate for the deaf, Anthony Chong shared that people needed more understanding on the culture of the deaf.

The highlight of the celebration was the interactive Journey into the Deaf World which consisted of seven stations where the public (both deaf and hearing) get to be briefed on the type of hearing aids, to guess the sign language, experience a dark room on how to communicate in the dark, interpret the pictorial storytelling, learn the types of deaf device, learn basic sign languages and finally go through the quiz about the deaf culture.

Google Malaysia also took the opportunity to introduce their two latest apps to ease the communication between the deaf and the hearing during conversation. There was also a quiz with prizes and a design activity for deaf and hearing children to produce mini vases from clay.

Thirty volunteers consisting of deaf members from the Deaf Club, as well as students from Level 2 and Level 3 sign language class assisted during the event.
